Parking Permits/Start Smart

start smart Classes and parking permits

start smart Classes and parking permits

SDUHSD has opted to postpone Start Smart sessions district-wide until further notice due to safety concerns. We will continue to work with Start Smart/Sheriff Dept. to create an alternative solution for this important training. In the meantime, a permit is not required for on-campus parking (student lots and marked student spaces). We will allow for a generous grace period to obtain a permit once Start Smart classes are able to resume.

Start Smart Driving Safety Class is a free driver safety education class that targets students between the ages of 15-20 years old and their parents/guardians.   All San Dieguito Union High School students and their parent/guardian must attend a Start Smart class in order to obtain a parking permit to park on their school campus.

Officers from the San Diego County Sheriff Department - Encinitas Substation and California Highway Patrol's offices will discuss traffic avoidance techniques, collision causing factors, driver/parent responsibilities, and seat belt usage. The Start Smart class was offered last year as a response to the numerous teen car crashes and related fatalities in our community. The Start Smart class provides an opportunity for teens and their parents/guardians to discuss the serious laws, obligations and responsibilities, and family expectations that are part of driving a car.
