Students must pick up their Off-Campus Pass before school, during passing period, or at lunch in the attendance office before leaving school (passes are not delivered to classrooms), and show the pass to the teacher before leaving the classroom.

Students who leave campus without a pass will be marked truant.

If a student becomes ill on campus:
Students who are ill must ask the teacher for a pass to the nurse.  The nurse will call the parent / guardian for permission to send the student home.  Students who are ill must go to the nurse before leaving campus.  Students who leave school without an Off-Campus Pass or without permission from the nurse may be marked truant.

EXCUSED ABSENCES include:

Absences verified by parent phone call or email for medical appointment, illness/injury, attendance of funeral services for a member of immediate family.  Excused absences also include absences that have received prior approval by the Principal/designee for religious holiday, employment interview, non-family member funeral service, court appearance, SART/SARB, confidential medical appointment or other pre-approved absence.

It is important for parents/guardians to remember that even though you report and excuse your student’s absence for an illness, AFTER 14 CUMULATIVE DAYS OF ABSENCE FOR ILLNESS (70 PERIOD ABSENCES), A DOCTOR’S NOTE WILL BE REQUIRED FOR EACH ILLNESS THAT FOLLOWS. Families will be notified via mail, if a student begins to accumulate excessive illness absences.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES include:

(1)  Absences NOT verified by parent phone call or email, or

(2)  Personal absences, including family vacation, car trouble, alarm didn’t go off, missed bus/carpool, traffic, electricity went off, etc.

It is important for parents/guardians to remember that even though you report and verify your student’s absence, if the reason given for the absence does not meet the criteria outlined by the State of California in the EXCUSED ABSENCE section, the absence will be coded as PARENT VERIFIED (X Code), BUT WILL NOT BE EXCUSED.  Families will be notified via mail, if a student begins to accumulate excessive absences.

For further details on excused vs. unexcused absences, per California Ed. Code, and extended unexcused/personal absences (10+ days), please click here.  For information on attendance coding in Aeries, please click here.

Students who are regularly absent or habitually truant will be referred to the Assistant Principal's Office, and perhaps placed on the LOP List.  This process may include a referral to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) and the development of an attendance contact.
